Lab #1 Reflection

Lab #1 required us to use photoshop to utilize pictures we had taken from a borrowed camera. We first had to take unique pictures that caught our eye and it was fun. We had to then pick out pictures that had elements like high view, low view, landscape, eye level and close up shots. They allowed us to act like photographers and take a hike to get perfect images that had caught our eye. After we had taken pictures we took the camera with us and uploaded the pictures into the computer. Out of all the pictures we had taken, we had to choose 5 pictures that represented the 5 different elements that I had said earlier. High point, low point, close up, landscape, and eye level shot. After choosing these pictures we had to label them by element. I believe this was fun and enjoyable to do. I was full of work but also excitement.

In order to complete this task I was a little uneasy about it at first since I don't go out normally and just take pictures. I was also excited that I could go on a journey even if it was for homework. I decided to go with my dad and two brothers. We just went on a stroll to a park and it wasn't too far but in walking distance. I went there and took 24 pictures in one spot.  At first I thought it was hard to do so. Then I realized that I had a very good view in my 180 degree angle I was facing. I then remembered some of the elements that I learned at that point. I tried to take different shots, more focusing on different directions, angles, positions and more. After my 24 shots in one place I decided to walk even further to see if there were more things that caught my eye and there was! Normally if someone takes a picture of the sky it may look like they are just lazy. However I got a picture of the clouds in a specific formation that I can't really describe in words. It was breathtaking and thats not the only thing that caught my eye. I saw lots of other things that caught my eye and they were amazing. There were formations of certain buildings or houses, I even saw a boat parked on the street! I saw the feather of a bird that I didn't see near my neighborhood as well so I decided to get a low point / close up shot on it. After my journey was over and I had a lot of convincing pictures, it was the time we had to bring in the camera and then transfer the pictures to the computer. When we transferred the pictures on the computer. it was then that Mrs. Ramirez had taught us how to use photoshop and we were doing basic things. I learned how to import pictures into photoshop and how to resize them. We had to choose 5 pictures that had the five elements that I don't have to say again because I've said it too many times. I chose the five pictures as shown in the images. We had to then label them using the text tool and then we were done! It wasn't a hard Lab to do but it was full of interest!

These tools in photoshop can be used for a lot of other things as well. In the future I see photoshop and photographer skills being useful for a web designer because if someone is making a website or something else they may want to get nice and perfect photos in there to be used. In order to know what kind of photos and how to make them, you need to have the skills to do so. In this case wielding a camera the right way and knowing the different kinds of shots you can take. Don't forget about the editing process in photoshop. Knowing how to utilize the tools in photoshop could make a web designer very successful. Photos are used in pretty much everything that has to do with being a web designer. I don't see who can become a web designer without having some prior experience and knowledge.
