CE #2

This article was about how people in Japan are developing an AI that can help to determine if an elderly person has dementia which is a group of thinking and social symptoms that interferes with daily functioning. This can be done by the AI asking specific questions, which is then responded to by the elderly, and then the AI does calculations to decided whether the person has dementia or not. It has a 90% accuracy in determining if someone has dementia but is also being further developed to become better. It is also said, if this avatar is fully developed, it could talk to elderly people at home to have daily conversations to notice early symptoms of dementia. Not only that, but it will encourage them to seek help ahead of time so they are in good care.

My opinion of this technology is that it is very advanced. An AI disguised as an avatar to talk to someone, sounds like a friend. Only this friend however, has the ability to ask you questions everyday and from that data, determine whether you are in the early stages of dementia or not. It's like a personal doctor at home, only thing is that there would be many of them, to help multiple elderly at the same time. Further developing this technology could allow for other types of disabilities to be noticed by AI or artificial intelligence. Maybe doctors might lose their job or something, but I won't jump to conclusions.
