Junior Achievements / 8 hours of community service

My name is Brandon and for Junior Achievements we went to a public elementary school to teach 2nd graders. It was a very new experience considering that I never taught actual elementary schools before. My group and I had about 3 days to prepare for this event in advance. We were given a curriculum with activities to do with the students. We were assigned to teach 2nd graders about our communities. I was a little nerve racking to think about for a while. Then, when my inner confidence had sprung out, it felt like second nature when I was in the class room. When we went to the public school I was going to lead my team starting with the intro. As an introvert, but good public speaker, I had to endure a feeling of uneasiness as I was thinking what the students would think of me if I didn't do my job properly as their teacher. Then I realized I wasn't there alone and I had my team of 4 others with me to keep me comfort during the entire thing. When we first entered the classroom, the children were so small and I kinda lost that nervous feeling because it reminded me of how I used to be like in the past during my elementary school years. I improvised my introduction of the team and then let the class start introducing themselves. I was suppose to lead the first session that we were going to teach the students about. After the introductions I had made a smooth introduction to the actual lesson I was going to teach. It went much better then I had imagined it in my head. When I was in the middle of the lesson, I felt that teaching was actually easy for me when it came to kids because they relaxed me. Their laughter and presence put me at ease for the entire day. The rest of the day went smooth as we flowed through the lessons with my team and I. We coordinated the lessons well and made a good team while doing so. It was a great experience and one that taught me a lot of things I might want to remember for the future.
